Quick iTunes Tutorial

Open iTunes:

-Click the iTunes icon in the Dock at the bottom of the screen. OR double click the system hard drive. Click ÒApplications.Ó Then double click ÒiTunes.Ó

Importing (Ripping) Music from a CD:

-Insert the CD to be recorded into the CD drive. Be patient while iTunes loads the CD.

-If songs and track information canÕt be read from the CD, it will be retrieved from the internet, if internet connection is available.

-Song information will be displayed by title or track number.

-Right now the computer has read only the title and song names. Use the following steps to import the actual songs.

-Songs with a checkmark in the box to the left of the title will be imported.

-Songs on the list that donÕt need to be imported can be deselect by clicking on the box to the left of the song title.  This will remove the checkmark in the box.

-All songs can be selected or deselect by holding down the ÒAppleÓ key while selecting or deselecting any box.

-Click the iTunes import button at the top right of the iTunes screen to import the songs from the CD. The program will begin converting the CDÕs songs into digital music files. There will be an orange circle with a moving wavy line to indicate the song that is currently being converted.  After a song is converted a green check mark will show up to the left of the song name.

-Now the music is stored in the computer. Click the Library icon on the left side of the screen. This will display all of the songs in the library.  The songs can be sorted and displayed in different ways by clicking the categories at the top.  Click the black arrow in each category to change listing from ascending to descending order and back. (Fields without information are listed first). The imported songs should be listed and can be accessed.

-To eject the CD, click on the eject symbol to the right of the CD title in the left column.

To Find a song:

-In the left column, Click on the Library or the Playlist to be searched

-Click on the ÒQÓ in the upper right of the screen

-Click on the category to search under

-Type the information of the desired song. Songs that fit this information will be displayed

Creating a Playlist:

-Click the plus sign at the bottom left of the screen OR choose ÒNew PlaylistÓ from the File menu

-Click in the box in the left column that says ÒUntitledÓ and type a new name for the Playlist

-To add a single song to a Playlist, click on the name of the song and hold down the mouse key. Drag the song over the name of the Playlist, and when the Playlist name turns gray, release the mouse button. 

-To add several songs adjacent to each other, click on the first song desired. Hold down the shift key and click on the last song desired, then release the shift key. Click on any of the songs selected and hold the mouse key down. Drag the songs over the Playlist until the name of the Playlist turns gray. Release the mouse button

-To add several songs not adjacent to each other, press the ÒAppleÓ key while clicking on each desired song. Then Click on any song that has been selected and hold the mouse key down. Drag the songs over the Playlist until the name of the Playlist turns gray and release the mouse button

Listening to a Playlist:

-Click on the name of the Playlist in the left column

-Click in the box to the left of each song to be played so that the box has a checkmark in it

-Click the ÒPlayÓ button in the upper left of the screen

To Burn an Audio CD:

-Insert a CD into the computer to burn onto

-Select the playlist to be burned by clicking on its name

-Click the ÒBurn DiscÓ button in the top right of your screen

-In the upper center of your screen iTunes will display the number of songs it will burn and the total duration

-Again Click on ÒBurn Disc.Ó  A status message will be displayed in the upper center of the screen with the name of the song being burned.

-To cancel a burn in progress click the ÒXÓ button to the right of the name of the song.
