Windows Quick Movie Directions

Open Windows Media Player:

-Click ÒStart.Ó  Move the mouse over ÒAll Programs,Ó ÒAccessories,Ó click ÒWindows Movie Maker.Ó

To Import a Video:

- Connect the camcorder to the computer.  Every camcorder is different.  See the manual that came with the camcorder for specific instructions. 

-Open Windows Movie Maker. (see above)

-Click ÒRecordÓ and a window will pop up. Click the blue drop down arrow to the right of ÒRecordÓ Choose to import Video, Audio, or Video and Audio by clicking on the desired option.

-Press play on the camcorder.  Then click ÒRecordÓ when the footage to be imported is displayed on the computer screen. When all the desired footage has been imported, click ÒStop.Ó

-Type a name for the video and click ÒOK.Ó Press enter. When the video is imported, clips will automatically be made.  A thumbnail image of the desired clips will be displayed. 

Arrange Clips:

-Click a clip and hold down the mouse button.  Drag the clip to the desired location on the timeline at the bottom of the screen and release the mouse button.  Do this for every clip that is desired in the movie.

-To change clip order once a clip is in the timeline, click the clip to be moved and hold down the mouse button.  Drag the clip to the desired location on the timeline and release the mouse button. 

Trim the Beginning of a Clip:

-Click a Clip to select it.

-There is a ÒSeek barÓ directly below the display monitor. When an area is clicked on in the scroll bar, the clip will go to the corresponding location in the selected clip. Click the area in the seek bar that corresponds with the desired beginning of the clip. 

-Choose ÒSet Start of Trim PositionÓ from the Clip menu to trim the clip to begin at the selected part of the clip.

Trim the End of a Clip:

-Click the clip to select it. 

-Position the arrow in the ÒSeek barÓ at the location of the desired end of the clip.

-Choose ÒSet End Trim PointÓ to trim the end of the clip. 

Un-Trim a Clip:

-Click the clip to select it

-Choose ÒClear Trim PointsÓ from the Clip menu

Split a Clip:

-Click a clip to select it

-Move the arrow in the ÒSeek BarÓ to the desired location of where the clip will be split. 

-Choose ÒSplitÓ from the Clip menu

Add Transition:

-Click the last clip in the timeline in order to select it

-Click in the blue area directly above the clip and hold down the mouse button.  Drag the clip to the desired location in the timeline and release the mouse button.

Save a movie:

-Click the disk icon towards the top of the screen

-Type in a name for the movie and click ÒSaveÓ

Preview entire movie:

-Click in last empty box on timeline

-Click above scroll bar at far right of screen to scroll up

-Click the play button below the monitor and watch video

Save movie as a file:

-Click ÒSave MovieÓ towards the top center of the screen

-Specify a quality setting for the movie by clicking on the blue drop down arrows to the right of setting.  Click the desired quality of the movie to be downloaded.  The download time can be viewed in the center of the window.  Click in the box to the right of ÒTitleÓ and type a name for the movie and click ÒOK.Ó

-Type a name for the file the movie will be saved in by clicking in the ÒFile NameÓ box.  Erase the old name and type the new name.  Click ÒSaveÓ

-A popup window will appear asking if it is desired to view the movie.  Click ÒYesÓ to view the movie, or click ÒNo.Ó  If no is clicked, the movie will still be saved.
